hi, yesterday i was riding my bike and just suddenly, as i pedal, i realize that it wasn’t going somewhere, i looked at the chain and the gears and they were in place but as i pedal, only the chain moves, it seems like the gear thing in the back isn’t together to the back wheel or something like that because the back wheel won’t go as a i pedal, my friend believes that the “cog” is broken but he is not sure, and i have no thought what a cog is, i dont know much in this area bikes so please if you know how to fix this, you could help me out, thank you

Problems shifting the gear on my mountain bike?

mountain bike gear Problems shifting the gear on my mountain bike?
Alright so the conundrum is that everytime I shift gears on my bike, it makes the pedals jump also which knocks my feet off of them which can make me slightly lose balance..is there any way to fix this? Like getting new pedals or do I just have to get used to this?

Mountain Bike Gear Question, 18 speed?

mountain bike gear Mountain Bike Gear Question, 18 speed?
I brought a bike today and it said it was “18 speed” What does that mean?

On the right hand side, the gear twist has 6 gears, 1 being the simplest 6 being the toughest. On the left had side the gear twist has a L and H – What does the L and H do? When I change that from L to H nothing seems to happen.

I have a trek 3900 and like the questions says i will be riding along and all of a sudden my chain feels like it goes loose and changes gears, and i loose all power when i pedel for a following. what can i do to fix this because i wanna ride over again tomarrow.

I’m sick of going to the bike shop to get it fixed. If there was a web site that could help me i could to it my self? The gear refuses to go in to 3rd gear. Is it possible that the thing that changes it is bent?

mountain bike gear Whats the easiest way to convert a mountain bike into a fixed gear?
Hi, I’m moving to the snow and want to build a mountin fixie. Since there aren’t many of these out there, I will have to build this one myself. I was wondering if I could fix the rear wheel without having to rebuild it. Or maybe there is a retailer on the web that sells fixed back wheels. Also are there specific hubs I need special for a mountain bike? Anything other advice, comments, rants, raves….?

I’ve just bought a new 18-gear mountain bike and I don’t reckon it’s been set up very well. The gears are loose even when going on slight downhill (no extra speed built up when pedalling) and I can’t get the left gear shift to go any further than halfway round when I try to get onto a higher gear. I’ve tried to tighten the cables but I really don’t know what I’m doing. Can anyone offer some advice to a clueless commuter?

I have had the same mountain bike for many years. I got a fantastic deal on it and I don’t want to get a new one. My conundrum is that when I ride it it will start to grind and make noises like it is shifting but it’s not. when I shift there is no conundrum. I need help on this one. I don’t want to take it to a shop because all the shops aroun here are to expensive. Can I fix it? Thanks
