My pedals drag on the ground on moderate turns and it’s nearly impossible to pump without hitting rocks when mountain biking. In the vertical spot, the bottom pedal is only 3 inches from the ground. How low should they be? From what I remember, last fall I did the standard sizing tests in the store and it is my size. I’m 5′11″ 155lbs and the bike is 26″.

I LOVE to mountain bike but my poor small bike can’t take much anymore so thats why I’m looking to upgrade. suggestions? Hardtail, dual suspension? Brands? Where to get them relativly low-cost?

I would like any kind of tip, beter methods getting up hills, riding through/on small spaces or boards [like they do in my town comp.] best ways to get over fears? ANYTHING.

Training- should I run more than I do? What kind of shape should i shoot for in addition to riding? Excellent moves to practice? I’m up to try anything to get better.

I have been wondering this question alot…at our high school they say it is, but when you dont wear one and ride past rangers, police and security they dont really notice. It may be diffrent in other countrys so Im mainly wondering in this area Australia.

I see a lotta people slamming low-cost department store bikes. I in person have a hardtail KENT bike that I’ve place in this area 2000 miles on, with many of those miles being gained through moderately rough riding. I bought it at Huge 5 for 100 bucks. It hasn’t agreed me any problems besides having to adjust the brakes occasionally.

So why all the despise on these bikes?

Am I going to be disappointed if I buy a Particular Stumpjumper or Hardrock, or a Trek 3-Run instead of a lower-end Cannondale such as a Trail 5? I’ve ridden Cannondale for the last twenty years, but keep seeing really low-cost Trek and Particular mountain bikes.

This bike will be used nearly exclusively on gravel roads in New Mexico at standard altitudes (5K+ feet). I’m 6′3″ and weigh 220. I am not a daredevil, I don’t beat the bike or myself. An average day’s ride is probably only twenty or twenty-five miles in 3+ hours. I don’t need or really want a high-end bike. I just want a light, quick bike that will call it quits-for-the-day long after I have.
